Madinah College hosted a jam-packed Ramadan Retreat this year, which begun on the 25th of May.
The two-day retreat was led by Abdul Wahid Stephenson (founder of Madinah College) along with Sharif Zain, who has memorized the whole Qur’an. Ma Shaa Allah.
The Ramadan Retreat took part in Gilwell Park, and attendees enjoyed residence in beautifully-built accommodation.
Those who attended benefited from lessons on the reflection of Qur’an in the blessed month of Ramadan, and tajweed lessons. Taraweeh was led by Sharif Zain, and tafseer of Surah Yusuf was led by Abdul Wahid. In addition to this, attendees enjoyed leisurely activities such as kayaking, indoor and outdoor archery. Brothers got the opportunity to benefit in the following ways : enhance their islamic knowledge and also have fun doing meaningful activities, which enhanced team spirit.
Below is a testimonial from a brother who attended :
For only 2 days I learnt a lot: the basics of tajweed, how to organise my time so I can fit in memorisation, revision, and extra reading. The taraweeh prayer was one of the best experience of night prayer I had so far this Ramadan, considering I don’t understand Arabic; the contemplation session before the taraweh really allowed us to feel connected with the Quran during the prayer as some ayats would come up and you would understand the imam; e.g. the part when Yusuf(as) was betrayed, and his brothers are going back to his father, you could really connect and feel the emotion, rather than just going by the Imam’s voice and melody.
The food caught me off guard, can’t say too much other than I was very impressed and even took the chefs number down, for use in the near future. The accommodation was perfect-the room had bunk beds, not cramped, toilets and showers were good.
