Study Arabic and and introduction to Islamic Sciences as taught in the Arabic Language Institute of the Islamic University of Madinah
Students complete the Classical Arabic Beginners or Intermediate certificate along with three Islamic Studies modules; Fiqh of ‘Ibaadaat (worship): Tawheed, Hadith and Tafseer.
Each module is based on the curriculum that is taught at the Islamic University of Madinah (IUM) to instruct students to become teachers of Islamic sciences. The course is comparable to one year of Key Stage 5 (A-levels, National diploma).
This course is intended for the students who are interested in developing reading, writing and spoken Arabic skills based on grammatical principles. It offers the student the opportunity to develop high frequency vocabulary from a variety of topics and themes. Students will be expected to make a steady progression across the four main strands of study namely: speaking, listening, reading & writing. Students will be expected to attend classes as well as committing 4 hours of self-guided study to develop the expected breadth and depth of skill competencies at this level
Syllabus: Madinah Arabic 1 (Beginners) or Madinah Arabic 2 (intermediate) or Madinah Arabic 3 (advanced)
Fiqh, Islamic Jurisprudence, covers an introduction to the principles of Fiqh, and the historical development of the schools of Law followed by a study of the ritual worship; purification, prayer, zakat, fasting and hajj with reference to the evidences from the Quran, Sunnah and scholarly consensus.
Tawheed, Monotheism, introduces the student to the most essential and important foundation of the Islamic faith, the Oneness of God. The course covers the three levels of the religion, islam, emaan and ihsaan, the meaning of monotheism, the meaning shirk (polytheism), and the meaing and pillars of emaan (belief).
Seerah (Prophet’s biography)
Seerah introduces students to the life and events of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It covers the main incidents and lessons to be learnt from the Prophet’s biography, starting from the Arab social and and political situation before revelation to the migration to Madinah and building the first Masjid in Islam.
Revealed Scripture: Quran and Hadith
The Revealed scripture introduces students to the primary sources of Islam, the Qur’an and Hadith. As well as a basic understanding of the methods for Tafsir of Quran (interpretation) and Mustalah Hadith (Science of hadith categorisation), students will also explore selected verses of the Quran and Hadith texts to have a better understanding of the Islamic tradition.
